Frustration. However many time you snuff it, you feel encouraged to approach the task again sometimes just to try again, others to maybe try a new angle.

Thought I would throw my two cents in on the difficulty discussion. So I am not the most avid gamer, and my go to will always be the 'normal' option as my understanding is that this would be the most representative of real life the game will offer. That said a challenge is not something I will turn my nose up to so long as it isn't cultivated through some ridiculous broken mechanic or plain vindictiveness on the part of the developer. For instance Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth had a task to traverse the side of a cliff, this was so hard until I realised the game was broken and had to compensate for it, that's not fun. As for vindictiveness i look to games like Super Meat Boy, yes i know many people love that thing, but i hate it. Just and onslaught of repetition to the point of punching a toddler with your remote, just to let off a little steam. No thanks. On the other hand you have games like Dark Souls where to intense difficult has been built into the game in a very balanced way leading to many deaths and failures, but very little.
